Norman is 12 and his best friend Jax just passed away. Norman and Jax had a goal to perform in the local UK comedy festival, and Norman is intent on fulfilling that commitment for the two of them. He also wants to find out who his biological father (of 4 contenders) is. Along with his mother Sadie and an elderly gentleman named Leonard that Sadie works with, they embark on a road trip to go to the Fringe (comedy festival) and find his biological father.
Oh yeah, and Norman has psoriasis, and Sadie had been born with her intestines outside of her body and had to have a serious surgery as a baby. Both of these health conditions play into the story, particularly the psoriasis. If you're at all iffy on those sorts of health conditions, buckle up.
Pros:
* The story is unique.
* The characters are unique.
* Combination of found family/biological family plot points
Cons:
* Norman's chapters come off as very middle grade. I wasn't in the mood/not as tolerant of the middle grade aspects as I wanted to be.
* A little too quirky/eyeroll-y, but I'm rather sensitive to quirk.
* I wasn't fond of the road trip nature of this book.
This might be a book that I might have been more receptive to at a different time, but I doubt it would get above 4 stars from me even if I read it at a time that I was more receptive to it.

This book was a solid 4 for me throughout. I didn’t love her writing style but I got used to it. The ending is what did it for me… love it, recommend it, would certainly read it again.

Entertaining read, but it’s not a repeated read for me. Once is enough
