This is a very rough and long read. I don't know if I got much out of it. Maybe I will need to revisit in time.

Herodotus is good company, a curious man who traveled widely and asked lots of questions 2500 years ago, wrote down what he knew and history was born. Facinating.

i struggled through it, but it has some very interesting and/or amusing tangents. unfortunately the tangents were (in the translation i read) broken up by pages and pages of quite boringly phrased history.

It was okay.
A lot of history.
Fairly dry history in fact.
Got some good thoughts from it, but all in all not too impressed.

An interesting book that shows how the ancient Greeks saw the world. It drags on at times and has some very boring asides, but also has a lot that is interesting and worth reading. Overall it’s interesting but a bit of a drag

The translation is amazing, has no silly old-English phrases that make the text unreadable. It's written in plain modern English, easy to understand, easy to read, and that's amazing (I know, I looked through multiple issues of this book).
An essential reading to anyone who's into Iron age warfare between Greeks and Persians.
