Very powerful. Shows the impact of generational trauma and the power of memory.

Happy Publication Day to Displacement by Kiku Hughes.

Displacement by Kiku Hughes is a graphic memoir that mixes fiction with magical realism and fantastical elements that follows Kiku, a Japanese-American teenager who is on vacation in San Francisco when she time travels to the 1940s Japanese-American internment camp that her late grandmother, Ernestina was forcibly relocated to during World War II. Kiku is stuck back in time and has to live alongside her grandmother and other Japanese-Americans where she learns a lot about her history that her history class never taught her. Overall, this graphic novel had a compelling story with relevant points about history and today’s society, a beautiful art style and the relationship between Kiku and her girlfriend, May was developed. 5/5

TRIGGER WARNINGS: internment camps, incarceration camps, concentration camps

A phenomenal graphic novel that shows how important it is to remember the history of our country so we do not repeat its mistakes ever again. Beautifully done. 100% emphatically recommend!

This is still so hard to fathom. No matter how many times I learn about the Internment Camps, I am always shocked.

Grades 7 and up.

Everyone needs to read this.

In these dangerous times when people are trying to erase history, books like these should be taught in all high schools

4.5 stars but we round up in this household. I need a physical copy badly. The art is fucking beautiful. If I read this in middle school I think it would have changed my life.
