It feels trite to say that Brave New World stands the test of time, but this book really does remain salient in 2025 - more so, I'd say, than any of the other books it's often held up against like 1984 and Farenheit 451. What's most striking about Brave New World is that the society it portrays is, in terms of a left v right, communism v capitalism framing,  ideologically agnostic. Instead it gets to the bare skeleton of the psychology of a society that is so obsessed with progress it forgets what it's purpose is.

I read and highly recommend the edition that begins with Huxley's harrowingly prescient introduction written in 1946, in which he discusses the true meaning of conservatism. Today that feels like a value disappearing from memory.

caste system, endless distraction of casual sex, lack of close relationships, taking meds to disassociate, casual racism

DID NOT FINISH

I was excited after finishing 1984.... it did not grab me
The first chapters were just worldbuilding narration thrown at our face. Ok, I get it. Babies are not naturally born. It felt like the whole book was about the world, with plain characters and no plot at all. The characters were boring and the plot didn't seem to head anywhere. The most interesting thing were the affirmations or somnophedic brain washing. Painfully boring to read.
