Las historias de Christie nunca decepcionan. Intriga, suspenso, giros en la trama. Había leído sus novelas hace muchos años y no recordaba la fascinación que despiertan. En este caso sí sospeché desde la mitad del libro quién era el asesino.

This book was just kind of disappointing.
Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie is one of the many books in the classic mystery series, Hercule Poirot. This book kicks off when a wealthy socialite is found dead on a cruise on the Nile, and the French detective has to figure out who among the guests murdered her before they dock. It’s been a while since I picked up an Agatha Christie book, and reading this made me remember why. The beginning of this book was so incredibly slow that I considered putting it down. It took a while to get into the plot since approximately the first third of the book is meant to provide character development. This being said, I didn’t care for any of the characters. I felt like they were hard to relate to as most of them were kind of unlikeable and somewhat out of touch. The narration style didn’t help that either as it felt removed and a bit apathetic. The plot did eventually pick up at about halfway through the book, but even then, I wasn’t drawn in by the narrator. This is also just a general gripe with parts of the mystery genre, but I don’t like it when the book is written in third person and the author still chooses to hide key evidence from the audience so that you can’t solve the mystery as you go. It’s different when the book is written from the perspective of some of the characters who have limited perspectives or for thriller books, but it is kind of just frustrating from a reader perspective when, surprise!, the solution to the crime is not something you could have possibly come up with on your own. This being said, the ending of this book and the reveal of who is responsible was somehow still pretty predictable. TLDR: I would not recommend picking up this book. There are better mysteries and Agatha Christie books out there.

Definitely not one of my favorite Agatha Christie stories but still a great time! Even with that dark ending…
