Plot
'Death on the Nile' is the first detective story I've ever read, and it's surprising how familiar the book's set up is. The book consists of two parts: the short first part introduces most of the characters, as if Christie places the pieces on a chessboard. The second part takes place in Egypt, where the pieces move, and some strange events occur that will eventually lead to the inevitable murder halfway the book. From then on the book takes its natural cause, with false leads, red herrings and suspicions all over the place. Unfortunately, the events become very unlikely, as numerous different crimes appear to take place on the same boat, all aimed at the unfortunate victim. Even stranger, none of these are punished in the end. Only a rather anonymous assassin gets arrested. Poirot is portrayed as a man who makes people talk all too easily, and this skill is not always convincing. Even more absurd is Poirot the matchmaker, and the rather unbelievable melodramatic finale. Thus as the book progresses, it becomes less and less believable. Yet, Christie's light, ironic and dialogue-rich style is entertaining throughout, making the book an enjoyable read from start to end.

I know this plot well.
Infact reading this I already went in knowing who dun-nit!
Partly I felt myself comparing to what I have seen on tv and film… you can tell where Hollywood have changed things yet for anyone who has never read this… give it a go as it’s a classic of the genre!

As usual Agatha Christie gives her best and one of the most intriguing thriller.
