This is my least favorite of the series so far. It’s still thoughtful and atmospheric but the actual murder mystery part seemed thrown in and cobbled together and totally implausible. There was also a lot of unnecessary foreshadowing that felt forced. I wish she had just stuck with the search for Peter without the rest of it.

Still chugging along.

No spoilers.
I liked this-to say its 'more of the same' isn't a bad thing when it comes to Louise Penny. This isn't my favorite of the bunch, but it would be really hard to top "How the Light Gets In."
If you haven't read her books yet, start with Still Life, and you can thank me when you're done with all 10!

Deeply satisfying.

Having read all the books in the series up till now, I thought about skipping this one because of some of the reviews. But I'm glad I read it and got to enjoy the thrill of a travel treasure hunt, learning about amazing places I might others never have heard of. The characters and the writing were just as I've come to know and appreciate.

Another great story! I felt this was more sad than others, but as usual, it was also so well written. You really should read previous books before this one as it builds on previous story lines and mentions past events. I am in awe of her ability to write compassionate characters, and with her ability to explain their inner struggle without being too heavy handed or cliche. The characters in the stories seem like people I could know. And as usual, I did not guess the ending. Highly recommended if you enjoy psychological mysteries. I am not sure if that category technically applies to this book, and maybe it is more that it gets in your head and sticks there.
