Ok so this book was good. I didn't like the beginning mainly because where was Celine and Sébastien? But after the first quarter of the book it got better. I know Celine wasn't at the top of her game but not everyone is and she has amnesia. I do realize why everything wasn't all about Celine and Sébastien and thats because a lot more was at play behind the scenes and while at first I didn't enjoy it, I now understand why it needed to be that way. This book is definitely setting up the next book in the series so just stick it out because Renee Ahdieh has a reason for everything.
dark emotional mysterious medium-paced

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator brings the characters to life.

What drew me to this book was the cover, however I was a little skeptical because it’s about vampires and I’m not a huge fan of them but I decided to give it a chance. That being said, I thought it was pretty slow up until page 80-ish after that it picked up quite nicely. I thought all in all that the it was an okay book; I’ll give it a 3 out of 5 stars. I liked this one way better than the first book ‘The Beautiful’.

I am sad to say that this is the first Renée Ahdieh book I haven’t enjoyed entirely.
It was so slow and just kept building a world on top of the one she already had. I had to force myself to read the last 100 pages. They whole ordeal was cringe worthy and forced.
I suppose this is going to be a trilogy, but I don’t think I’ll be reading the next one.

Renée Ahdieh has an amazing way with words and this is her best work yet!! The details in this book were perfect; the images she created through her words flowed through my mind to create these lavish pictures of the worlds in the book. The emotions I felt reading this book were insane—it was a rollercoaster ride, one that I loved very much. The plot was everything and even more—I was very satisfied with the beginning, the middle, and the end. It was perfect. The character’s—Bastíen, Celine, and the rest of the lions—lives were explored further than what had been divulged thus far; we discover, in greater depth, who they are and what their motivations in life are, and honestly it made me love the characters even more. Now, the romance. SWOON!! I fell even more head over heels in love with Celine and Bastíen (if that’s even possible) and I can’t wait to see where their love takes them in the next book!!

disappointing... :(

Didn't have any expectations, but I was surprised.

Final vote: 3,5/4

How dare Renee Ahdieh write that ending? How DARE she? I am furious. I came out here to have a good time and all I'm feeling is attacked.

I'm not gonna sit here and tell you it's a great book but it sure as hell is a great time.

Why are people saying The Beautiful is better? Excuse me? The Damned is SUPERIOR.
Yes, yes, the POV switches from Celine to a myriad of other characters. But, I found that highly entertaining because we get the perspective of supernatural creatures that Celine would not have understood. Also, we get to add on all these new stories and characters that would have been absent while only following one POV.

Where I do not care much for Celine & Bastian's relationship, it is not the forefront of this book and GOD BLESS. We get a taste of Celine's backstory and boy howdy is it interesting.

Odette is queen and...I need the next book...I...if you know, you know...

I fell completely in love with the first book and binged it in one sitting. I immediately picked up the next one but didn’t like it AS much.

why?:
- look i love the fey. but i also love vampires. which is why i started reading this book…. about vampires…. so i was a little disappointed that even with bastien’s transition the vampires still didn’t feel like the focus?
- i also really liked the setting in New Orleans so i wish more of the city was explored. instead it kind of shifted to the Vale and the fey.
- i kind of pictured bastien and celine still ending up in new orleans together and ruling the city but seems like that is not going to happen which is disappointing
- the detective or whatever from paris coming out of nowhere saying he followed celine allllll the way there just for a murder? like why? felt like a cop out and a stupid storyline but

It's not very often this happens, but I enjoyed this sequel more than the first book. Though, now that I've read this one, it does make me want to go back and re-read The Beautiful, not because I forgot anything that happened, but because, a year ago, it took me ages to read it due to my reading slump that's seemingly lasted a whole-ass year.

There were definitely more vampires in this one, just as I had hoped there would be. I think I understand why there weren't in the first book now, which is partly why I want to go back and re-read it. With the way that The Damned ended, I have a strong feeling that this isn't the end of the story because it left a few things open that have yet to be tied up. If there is a third book in the works, I'm definitely going to be waiting for it as patiently as I possibly can.
