This is another I read out loud while feeding Annie. I can agree with some of the reviews that there would be a lot to explain "nowadays" to a young child, but it is such an descriptive portrayal of life during that time - and explained in a way that a child would understand it. I never made it through this whole series as a young child. I'll be curious to explore it now.

Was listening to this with my kid and forgot about things like spanking and the “darky” song. She’s not old enough for me to explain things like that so I’m uncomfortable with her listening to it!
