This Place is an anthology of short stories in graphic novel format. All of the stories are by people indigenous to North America. The stories focus on the experiences of the Indigenous people especially in their interactions with white people. This book is important for diversity in fiction and in telling history from "the other side".

Stunning artwork, and a really cool way to recount Indigenous history in Canada. Some stories left me wanting a lot more details, but I guess I can go look that up on my own. Definitely can see this being a really useful tool in educational settings

This is a short story anthology and I probably wouldn't have rated every individual story in here 5 stars, but I think many of the stories warranted it and I also think the overall story/message, the composition of the anthology, and the spirit and heart that runs through the whole thing, deserves every star.

I loved it. I cried multiple times. As I should have. As we all should because not a single human should stand for the atrocities this book covers.

i thought this anthollogy of stories in a graphic novel format was really interesting. being from the U.S. and oklahoma specifically, i've learned a lot of the indigenous peoples here, but nothing about those in Canada so i found this very informative in that regard. some of the stories were hard to follow because it felt like something was missing or they ended abruptly, but i still had a good time.

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Poignant and powerful, This Place is a collection of the stories and history of the First Nations people. The storytelling is phenomenal and the illustrations breathtaking, and both highlight the injustices and horrors that the First Nations people have endured. But these are also stories of hope and strength, the stories of those who choose to fight for their land, their people, their culture, and for their descendants. The authors and illustrators assembled this collection both to honor their ancestors and to educate their descendants. But for the non-Indigenous, read this book and come away with new knowledge of history, and learn things that you never would have been taught otherwise.

This beautiful book tells 10 incredible stories, each prefaced with a lesson and timeline. Some stories had me in tears and others had me wanting more.

'This Place: 150 Years Retold' from HighWater Press is a graphic novel retelling of the history of indigenous people in Canada.

The 10 stories in this collection are chronological and trace the treatment of native peoples in Canada during the time it has been a country. Over the course of the book, I met Annie of Red River, the wife of a settler, and quick with the whip. There are the wendigo hunters who are out to stop people from going crazy. Perhaps my favorite was about World War I sniper Francis "Peggy" Pegamagabow.

The stories are almost all interesting. The art varies, as you might expect with so many different creators. I wasn't as crazy about the final story, which was a speculative fiction story.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Portage & Main Press and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.
