Parallels between Zhu Chongba and Ouyang, while they are being rivals, were amazing. Anyway, this is a grand queer historical. I just wish pacing was done better.

Zhu's story and character arc were gripping. However, I found the late POV shift disorienting and the paceing slow. Overall a wonderfully queer and fantastical, historical reimagining.

I don't know why everyone loves this but I know I most certainly did not. Could not root for the main character no matter how hard I tried, and I did not really enjoy the storyline either. It was well-written though, so 1.5 stars for that. Sorry to the author (in case they ever read this), I respect your craft!
