Great worldbuilding. The story kept my interest the entire time I was reading and immediately checked out the next book

Beautiful imagery, interesting cast of characters, plot twist at the end that I didn't see coming.
The thing that kept it from being 5 stars for me was the journey into the forest. It was a bit slow, and yes I know YA characters are supposed to make dumb choices because they're teens, but a few of their actions felt more like 13-14 year olds than 16+.
I loved Koffi and Ekon as both separate characters and as a team, was super immersed in the world and the magic system, and connected with them on their respective character developments.
Overall, I really solid YA novel. I will be reading the next book and whatever else this author writes.
