I did not really like this book as much as I hoped. It already started at the first page, when I realised that this was a book for 12 year olds. I should have looked at the age group, but yeah my mistake. Still I was curious and I began reading anyways. The mystery murder had a fun twist, but just the writing style threw me off. The conversations and therefore the characters were simplistic, which is normal for 12 year old readers. That´s why this rating is not realistic for this age group.

The first time I read this book, I was probably about eleven, and so my perspective has changed quite a bit. I’m glad for that. This book is still filled with creativity and excitement and is still a wonderful mystery. I enjoyed the little clues littered throughout, just clear enough and yet not too clear for us to lose interest and guess immediately. However, I found that I disliked a lot more than I previously remembered. For starters, now that I am older and have experience with toxic friendships, I have to say, Daisy gives off too many warning signs for comfort. I don’t think the portrayal of Daisy and Hazel as best friends is healthy, and in fact it could potentially be damaging for younger children who may believe that it is normal for a friend to belittle you, ignore your completely valid fears and feelings, and to act with such superiority that you feel inadequate and worthless. In fact, I worry that it may lead younger kids to seek out such relationships, believing them to be special and healthy. Daisy is my main problem with this book, though others include the lack of showing verses telling and, in part, the character of Hazel herself.
Overall I do think this book can be enjoyable, but it must be read with at least some caution. It’s a fun and well-designed mystery, but the characters are more than a little questionable.

I am iffy on this book. I liked the idea but the writing to me just wasn't that good. I feel as though the main character was constantly over looked and there was no resolve for it and I honestly hate reading it.

could be the nostalgia talking but I absolutely adore this series
5 stars in every way possible

Spiffing yarn!
