Wow! I expected to like this book, but i didn’t expect it to become a new favorite of mine. I absolutely loved it, and I can’t wait to read the sequel!!

“We both know the world would be better off without heroes. Without villains. Without any of us, getting in the way of normal, happy people and their normal, happy lives.”

3.5/5 stars

A council of the worlds most known superheroes creating an organization for other superheroes to join the cause? Isn't that . . . The Justice League?

Two different superpower groups fighting over the need for a cure to powers? One group with the intent of curing anyone who won't join them, and the other, fighting for basic human rights? Isn't that . . . The X-men?

Since superhero stories are becoming more and more like hand me down versions of both Marvel and DC, original super story telling is becoming harder and harder to come by. Of course I'm not blaming Marissa for using superhero basics 101 to write this. It is very hard to be original nowadays. With that being said I still overall enjoyed this book. Mostly the prologue and the third act. The prologue was amazingly written, but them you read on and it just continues to drag and drag. Until finally you've hit the third part of the book which was very fast paced. The book also ends with a cliffhanger that is not only cliche, but is also so obvious from the very first page. So I really wasn't shocked by it as much as Marissa probably wanted me to be, but it did intrigue me to read on with the series.

I particularly enjoyed reading from Nova's POV. She was, by far, the more interesting of the two characters. All her action sequences were amazing, and her backstory (while also being a basic super back story) was also entertaining.

Adrian on the other hand makes me feel bored every time he shows up. Even though his ability is probably one of the better powers in this book, his development is just not as well built as Nova's. His backstory (which is . . . once again . . . a basic super back story) was only given a spare thought and not as much detail went into his as we got with Nova. I did enjoy the LGBT representation with the fact he had two dads though.

Plot wise I think the story is fine and entertaining and I'm looking forward to reading on with the series (and praying that the sequels will be better).
