Reading The Westing Game feels a lot like playing a round of Clue—sixteen quirky characters, a mysterious death, a will with a twist, and a high-stakes game set in motion by a reclusive millionaire. But Ellen Raskin’s classic is more than just a whodunit. It’s a smart, funny, and surprisingly thoughtful story about identity, community, and second chances. At the heart of it is Turtle Wexler, a sharp and underestimated kid who slowly emerges as the story’s real hero. The novel’s fast pace, shifting points of view, and cryptic clues keep you guessing, while deeper moments—like Judge Ford’s backstory or the hidden motivations behind the heirs—add emotional weight. The Westing Game manages to be clever without being confusing, and heartfelt without getting heavy. It’s a puzzle you’ll enjoy solving, with a payoff that’s both satisfying and meaningful.

DID NOT FINISH: 14%

DNF at 14% because my library ebook is expiring. I forgot that I only like to read middle grade in physical format, and I just couldn't be bothered to keep going with this.

I probably would have liked this has I encountered it as a kid, but now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
