I’m glad I finally read The Assassin’s Blade, especially after being a few books into the Throne of Glass series. It was really satisfying to get more backstory on Sam, Arobynn, and how Celaena ended up in the Salt Mines—those connections added so much depth.

That said, I did struggle with this one. Young Celaena is frustrating—immature, arrogant, and a bit hard to root for compared to the more grounded version we see in Heir of Fire. Because of that, I found it hard to really connect with her or get fully pulled into the novellas.

Overall, I’m happy I read it after getting attached to Celaena in the main series. It adds context, but I’d definitely recommend saving it until you’re already invested in her story.

I definitely should have read this book third but it was fine when I did.  It took me awhile to get through it because I knew what was going to happen and was not ready for the details.  I am so sad about Sam and hope she guts the two who set her up.

But I need to read on. There are so many spoilers to dodge and I do not like some of what I have heard.  Just hoping the story brings me around or I inferred it incorrectly.

I wonder how the two women fit in and if they will return.   The merchant with the spidersilk needs to come back as well.    I loved the history this book gave as it shows her growth as a person so well.  When I first stared it, I was thinking, who is she?

I am loving this series so far and cannot wait to devour the rest.

thank you sarah j maas for ripping my heart out at 2x speed while ALSO making the series even more heartbreaking than before i learned about celaena’s past. that being said i did really enjoy this one and since i read the first two books already i got a lot of context for things mentioned before, and it was fun to read more about erilea and its diverse landscape.

but arobynn is fucking disgusting and despicable i hope celaena slits his throat
