Book #37 read in 2016

This is just another book trying to be like Gone Girl only it's not as successful. The narration switches characters and time. If the ending was a great twist, I might have enjoyed it more. However, it was very anticlimactic. I'm glad I borrowed this one from the library and did not purchase it.

My book club read for this month

Stephen kings review of it being the next gone girl got my hopes up. It was a mediocre book at its best

closer to 4.5.

Just as easy, fluffy romances are optimal for summery beach reads, I find myself gravitating toward cold, unflinching mysteries in the winter. Over the course of a night and the following afternoon, I sat in a cozy chair while the east coast was being pummeled by snow. Is there any better way to read a thriller? This one was good and kept me so thoroughly hooked that I'm a little sad to see it finally reach its end.

I picked this book up at Waterstones in London. This is a Richard and Judy Bookclub pick for Autumn 2016 and has been on the bestseller list in Great Britian. I think it is unfair to compare this book to Gone Girl and Girl on the Train which may factor in to some so-so reviews I read here on Goodreads. I thought this was a real pageturner and recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good british thriller.

This one was good enough to keep my attention but I didn't enjoy it as much as some other mystery/thrillers. The narrators were good, though! This is the story of the abduction of a little girl, narrated by the widow of the man accused, the detective trying to solve it, and the reporter telling the widow's story years later after her husband dies. I'm not sure the pieces narrated by the reporter added a ton to the story other than showing the readers another view of the widow, but the other two sides of the story were good and told both in the present and years ago when the crime first occurred.

I will say this wasn’t my favorite mystery book by any means but it was good enough to keep me occupied during the early hours of a Sunday morning.
