Glen Taylor appears to be the perfect husband on paper, but is he hiding a dark secret? This novel is taut with suspense.

Leaving this book 1 star because the description totally overhyped the book. While the book isn't terrible and discusses a lot of things I thought about after reading the book, it's not really a thriller or anything too much at all. Do not be fooled by the description.

I should know the minute the front the book makes some reference to Gone Girl and or Girl on the Train, I should put it down and walk away. I really did not care for this book. The Jean, main character I found super annoying and the back and forth of the Glenn take Bella or not got old! I get that the story was told from every prospective but I was not feeling it! Just like Gone Girl and Girl on the Train, I was quite disappointed!

First of all, it should NOT be a bestseller and it was NO where near as good as Gone Girl. I'm not one to just give up on a book, although I should have with this book. There was nothing exciting, nothing to keep your attention, no real cliff hangers from chapter to chapter to keep you interested. It for sure was not an "electrifying thriller."

3.5 stars. I think I'm at peak 'like Gone Girl' comparisons. Time for a new trend

There was plenty of anticipatory buildup but I found the conclusion to be a bit of a letdown.

The story is straight forward- nothing surprising. I would still say this is a fast paced read.

I read The Child a few months ago and really enjoyed it, so had high hopes for this one, but I found that the writing was too simplistic for me and that there was no oomph in the ending. The "big twist" was mundane and predictable. Disappointing.

Not really one for me. I kind of didn't see the point of the thriller element and I found the characters a bit unbelievable. It was the audio version so I can't check, but I think Jean was supposed to be in her 30s and she just didn't come across like a modern woman at all. Not sure there are many late 30s women called Jean. And all of the character POVs were too high level and they all sounded the same. It was an easy summer read/listen, but not something I would recommend.

Editing to say I've just read some other reviews who picked up the same thing about Jean's age. That threw out the whole book for me, her character just didn't work, it felt like she was out by 20 years. And given she was the central, title character, it's kind of a flaw that I've finished the book and feel like I've got no idea what the author was trying to say about her.

Thinking about it, 2 stars not 3 for me.
