One of the BEST books with the dark, awful guy you love to hate. Absolutely amazing! The only thing that could make it better is if it had a mature rating *giggle*.

Justo lo que esperaba y quería en este momento: algo fácil y adictivo.

Para ser de hace diez años, no es demasiado problemático (bueno, sí, pero ya iba preparada), y la protagonista me ha caído super bien, así que estoy encantada.

very cw teen drama coded

Update from 2016: I originally rated this 4 stars. I remember very little from this book at all and have no plans on continuing the series. It will remain in a Beautiful Creatures-esque mist for me.

I really liked this book! This cover is extremely deceiving.

Plot: 8
The plot was enthralling, though it was not without YA cliches.

World Building: 7
Enough was explained to keep the reader wondering, but not enough to keep us from being at least a bit confused.

Character Development: 6
Kat didn't change a whole ton like in a contemporary, but she did change enough to satisfy me.

Writing Style: 7
Other than the awesome sarcasm, nothing special.

Originality: 9
I can't recall a book quite like this! On top of that, I don't really read paranormal. This was a new experience for me, regardless of those who say its exactly like Twilight (which I haven't read and have no intention to do so).

Format Cleanliness: 6
Nothing special or messy.

Memorability: 8
I will remember this book for a while as my first paranormal! Also, the whole light thing is vaguely Time Lord.

Did it Live up to Expectations?: 8
I didn't expect much because a) the cover and b) paranormal. This book was a pleasant surprise.

Overall Enjoyment: 9
I had a fun time reading this book, and that should count for a lot of bonus points.

Grade: 68/100
Grade Letter: Solid C, I believe it should be higher due to the enjoyment factor.

i decided to pick this book up since it's been loved by so many of my goodreads friends and i was hoping to love it too. i ended up giving it only two stars, because different aspects of the book threw me off.

first of all some thing i did not like about obsidian:

i found the plotline about katy's blog to be unnecessary. i did not see the point of adding it to the story, and everytime it was mentioned i lost the focus of the main story. if there had been some tie from her blog to the actual plotline, i wouldn't mind it; but it was just randomly thrown in between the actual story line. i do think i'd like to book more if these random "blog stories" had been left out. it just threw me off.

the first 100 pages of the book contained a lot of randomness in my opinion. it took me a while to get what the story was about and i didn't get a feel for any of the characters. even though the writing was good, i didn't feel that the story was very well tied together.

but, there were also some things that i did like about the book. my favorite thing was the chemistry between katy and deamon, and their dialogue. i also enjoyed the action scenes between the arum and luxen.

i expected more from this book, and i ended up thinking it was only okay. i didn't hate it, but i didn't love it either. i'm glad i gave it a chance, and i do understand why some really love it. it wasn't for me, but overall i enjoyed parts of the plot - but not enough to give it three stars.

I could practically hear Dido's "Here with me" song in the back of my head through this whole book because in parts it did sort of remind me of Roswell. Only not set in Roswell.

I really didn't care for this book. At the very, very end there are a few chapters written from Daemon's point of view, which add so much more clarity to his actions and his feelings, that I feel this book would have benefited from a Character A, Character B viewpoint switch off.

SpoilerThe MC, Katy moves to a small town, goes to ask the neighbor for directions, and though he's hot, hot, hot, he is so hostile to the point of seeming just flat out mentally imbalanced. Katy stalks off, and for, reasons unclear, Daemon's sister, pretty much stalks Katy and befriends her, almost sight unseen.

If befriending someone, could put their life in danger, and your life in danger. And the lives of everyone you know in danger....Dee needs a better motive for befriending the neighbor girl. True her friend base is not very large or interesting, but, for the time being, maybe you just make due.

Daemon run's absurdly hot and cold, because you never get to know his side of things, he seems like the world's most unstable, horrible jerk.

Katy loses the initial personality she was granted with, until she becomes just a reactionary character, mad at Daemon attracted to Daemon, and anything that was Katy, just disappears, it's all about him.
