🥰🥰 I love Diana and Dallas. She’s so strong and caring and I love her relationship with Josh and Louie. The kids are so sweet and funny. Dallas was so good with them and I enjoyed watching him grow closer to the whole family. MZ is such a slowburn master. This had so many swoony and heartfelt moments that mad me smile.
I also loved the little cameos from characters from The Wall of Winnipeg and Me, Kulti, and Under Locke!

Super cute story and Dallas really grew on me! Normally don’t like stories revolving around kids, but Josh and Louie added a lot to the story

Review in 1 sentence: One of the most sweetest and rewarding romances I’ve read.

Mariana Zapata has done it again!!! Just like any MZ book that I’ve ever read (apart from a few outliers), I enjoyed and gobbled out this story as quickly as I could finish these mammoth books. Only MZ would I be willing to read through a 500+ pages long romance book. This wasn’t a new favorite per se but it had that signature Mariana Zapata touch with her emotional and slow-burn romances (one of the very few authors who had this trope mastered and perfected). She does well with creating strong-willed but soft-hearted heroines and big grumpy heroes with a heart of gold who slowly become smitten with the heroine and boom... IN LOVE! And the cuteness that her nephews—sons, bring to the story and every time Diana and Dallas would act as a family had my heart going uwu. But I got to admit that I did not jive well with the beginning and it’s more of a me thing than a book-thing if that’s what you’re worried about. I think that I did not just like the setup of the story, or that it wasn’t something that I’m remotely interested in. Moving houses? In a new neighborhood? Greeting neighbors with no hero action? It was all just mediocre to me so I did find it slow but when things do pick up, I was finishing this book so quickly. Diana and Dallas did not get off to a good start (hell, their meet-cute was during the middle of the night filled with awkwardness) and Dallas does have issues so there was a time when they were “estranged” at this certain level but other than that, there is no other “push/pull” with these two. It was now slow, but steady sailing. This story leans more to the sweet and heartwarming side rather than angsty but it would still leave you emotional. If you’re intimidated by the sheer size and length of this book, fear not my friend, as MZ’s writing is very easy to get through. Her heroines’ internal monologue is no-nonsense and riddled with humor and does not appear haughty or high-handed (well, in this one, it didn’t). What I appreciate in slow-burn romances, especially those written by this author, was the little things that build up the romance, it makes it all the more meaningful and when all these add up, it hits you hard in all the good places. Themes of parenthood can be seen throughout the story, a mini-discussion of what constitutes a ‘real mom’ or what does it take to be called a ‘real mom.’ Signing off, this book is included in one of the higher tiers in my imaginary MZ book ranking. And on that note, I’m so close to finishing her backlist and I don’t want to run out of her books yet

First of all, let me start off by saying that I loved seeing previous characters from, “Under Locke”, “The Wall of Winnipeg and me”, and “Kulti”. I feel like this book had a good amount of characters from previous books interacting with the main leads such as, Diana and Sal being cousins, and obviously Kulti making an appearance since he married Sal. Seeing Vanessa and Aiden again and Vanessa with her first pregnancy/ first child. All the happy feels with this book (despite the hard things mentioned that Diana went through). This book mentioned some of my favorite characters (but honestly I love everyone from Mariana’s books!) so it was lovely getting to have these little check ins with everyone, and part of me was kind of shocked why I didn’t put two and two together that Diana and Sal were cousins especially with Diana mentioned in passing she had cousins who played soccer professionally or the fact that Sal and Diana have the same last names!! I was a little slow on that part smh.

Diana Casillas was a character previously mentioned in, “The Wall of Winnipeg and me”, and she was a sassy, stubborn character that was the absolute best friend to Vanessa. Now in, “Wait For It”, it focused on Diana’s story and how she ended up raising her two nephew’s, Josh and Louie. Right away from the beginning, it was established that it had been two years that Diana became Josh and Louie’s legal guardian after the passing of her brother, Rodrigo (Josh and Louie’s Dad). Diana juggled a lot of responsibility from trying to be the best parental figure and role model for the boys, constantly trying to give her best for her family, despite still learning things along the way. Obviously being a parent is no joke, and I loved reading about how Diana was dedicated and trying to give her nephews the best life.

Along with trying to raise her nephews, Diana also had to deal with trying to meet the expectations of her mother, no to mention said mother always being too strict and critical to Diana. I felt bad whenever Diana’s mom made certain comments to her, I wanted to walk into the book and give Diana the biggest hug possible. On the bright side, despite having a lot of deal with, thankfully Diana had the helpful hand of her gorgeous, manly neighbor, Dallas.

Now, Dallas was a fine man to begin with, but what made him even more attractive was the way he was around Josh and Louie, being kind, attentive, helpful, and having patience when it came to coaching the baseball that Josh played for. Dallas was a great combination of everything you would want in a man, he was a handyman, family man by trying to help his troublemaker of a brother, and overall a great friend to Diana.

Obviously, Dallas and Diana weren’t well aquatinted partly due to the reason that Dallas assumed Diana was flirting with him (which she wasn’t) and therefore acted stand-offish whenever Diana was around. This book being a slow burn (well known trademark of Mariana Zapata), Diana and Dallas got to know each other gradually and went from neighbors, friends, and of course…. LOVERS! I will always love a slow burn romance because, not only does it build up the romance, but you’re able to appreciate all the little significant moments leading up to the big moment between the main leads.

One of the things I loved about this story was, the story of a family, Diana raising Josh and Louie, and finding love later on in life, in this case, Dallas appearing in Diana’s life when she least expected it. I loved Louie and Josh’s relationship with Diana, it was so heartwarming and sweet. Through out the story, I fell more and more in love with Diana, Dallas, Josh, and Louie. This was a sweet, heartfelt story that mentioned some tough topics, but also maintained a sense of lighthearted energy that made me happy. Of course, I love epilogues, and Mariana did an amazing job providing a glimpse into Diana and Dallas’s life together.
