Wow wow wow! Merry Christmas to me for real! Last night I was gifted a Kindle! Goodbye Nook from 2010! Now that I have access to the Libby app, I have access to ALL the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books at a moments notice! I was able to get Rodrick Rules up and running and completed it while watching Christmas Story on repeat. I’m happy Rodrick got his own book because Devon Bostick. Since I had to skip RR, this provided good context for him and his band and some other family dynamics. A solid read. Kinney’s consistent which is respectable… but it could be a little r*petative… anyways… 5 down 13 to go.
Just like with the original Wimpy Kid book, I found myself laughing uproariously in the beginning, and then once again becoming disenchanted with Greg, the main character. I wanted to be able to empathize with him and feel bad for all the bad things that happen to him in school, but since he has such a mean-spirited character about him, I couldn't get behind him at all.
I enjoy reading this series just for an easy read and something easy and mindless, but as far as the quality of the prose, that I can say I'm not a fan.

Greg is back with a second diary. It's a new year and things haven't changed too much...except that horrible thing that happened over the summer that no one knows about except big brother Rodrick (and Rodrick won't let him forget it). Greg and Rowley are still best friends--although Greg gets easily annoyed by him still. Manny is still the obnoxious little brother. And mom sure is tougher. Rodrick, though, is the real problem--mean and constantly torturing Greg, Greg doesn't know how he's going to get through it all.
I don't think that I laughed as much at this one as I did in the first book, but it was still entertaining. The cartoons are amusing and Greg is still funny. Hope the third is a little better.

This was a book I had to read for “Childhood Favorites” book club as a friend’s pick—I will be withholding a rating, as I am not the intended audience for this book.

I think I liked this one better than the first one? Greg Heffley is still a jerk, but I definitely couldn't help literally laughing out loud at a lot of the jokes.
