I wish I had read this book in my twenties, when I was single & it was first recommended to me! Fortunately, there is a lot to learn and apply within these pages for those at any age who want to improve their relationships. Personally, I felt my brain rewiring as I was introduced to concepts and research in this book.

Repetitive, lacking rigor, and somehow both vague and excessively prescriptive at the same time. Also provides next to zero information for anyone who is not firmly in one attachment style. Does not take into account other issues that would seemingly impact attachment styles, like other mental health disorders or trauma.

There are a lot of moments when this book was educational and helpful in considering relationships (both romantic and otherwise) but it failed to acknowledge many factors such as same-sex relationships, global cultural impacts, and SEL to name a few.

This book made me see things from a new perspective. It gave me a lot of new things to try out for myself now that I am more self-aware.

I found this book very interesting and informative about the three main attachment styles, including very helpful suggestions for reflection and ways to adapt one’s style alone and in relationships. However, I gave 4 stars vs 5 because I didn’t find most of the examples as helpful. I think the book could have been just as effective with fewer examples.

- I thought it would just be more research and psych- but it’s a self help book, which I don’t like …
