It took me a few false starts to get fully engrossed in Salvage but once I did I finished the book in an evening. Salvage is full of haunting imagery and poems linked to the borderlands, historical events, religion, and what it means to be a person, a woman, a poet, a poet of color in today's world. The response poem "Siege" resonated strongly with me — "A voice behaving like a wound / An I" — and I found myself nodding my head through "Tonight We Drink Whiskey & Dive."

I received this book for free via NetGalley for an honest review
