This was a re-read for me. I don't think it has taken me this long to read a book in a long time. I liked it a lot better this first time I read it, but this time I just didn't have the patience to slog through it. For hundreds of pages, nothing really happens except the same things over and over and over. I never wanted to pick it up, and honestly, it almost made me dislike reading. The only saving grace is that I do like Robin Hobb's writing. I'll try a re-read of the Liveship Trilogy, and hope it's not as bad as this was.

This book took me 2 years to finish. No joke.
However, when I picked it up again and read the last 400 pages, it wasn't nearly as bad as I remembered. I'm not sure it was worth it to read the whole series, but now that I have I may continue on to the next series (The Tawny Man) that is supposed to follow.

Not my favorite in the farseer trilogy, the first half felt a bit like a collection of short stories (and I'm not really a short story kinda girl) but the rest was better.
And it really is a great book - it just isn't as good as the other books in the triology

I knew I’d like it, but not that it’d make me cry. Repeatedly.
Fitz outlives his injuries from Regal’s abuse, and hides away in a sheperd’s hut. His actions finally forces both Chade and Burrich to leave Fitz to his own devices, and so it begins.
Fitz’s initial quests, for self and revenge and for love, ultimately culminates in the inevitable quest for King Verity. Along the way he discovers much about both the Wit and the Skill, and how these can best be used against Regal.
But EVERYTHING comes at a price.
Robin Hobb somehow manages to write a book that fullfills all my reader’s needs, with so many nuances of character, emotions, world, relations - I mean, I want to cry just thinking about it. There is so much else to be said, but I can’t begin to describe how this book and this series touches my heart.
