I always begin Hobb's books thinking "why did I do this to myself (again)?" Because they just start out so slow. But about halfway through (yes, I realize this can be a lot to slog through) they get so good! These books are deep and rich- I love the characters. The plot is well thought out and these books just work. I love them, even if the pacing is difficult at times.

Wow, Robin Hobb can end a chapter! She left me reeling more times than not. Compared to the previous two Farseer books, this one moves quick! Extremely emotional, especially at the beginning and end. There was an odd twist at the end that was uncomfortable but it fits with the culture of the Six Duchies. Loved how it came together in the end.

“That is one thing that in all my years among your folk I have never become accustomed to. The great importance that you attach to what gender one is.”

So many pages and so much information my mind is still a little bit blown after reading this!

I'm obsessed with the way Robin Hobb writes stories and I hope I never run out of them to read. I feel like I've been on my own quest after reading this and will need some time to rest my exhausted brain (in the best possible way).

I was hyper aware of how long this book was - it did feel like there were a few too many slow bits. Around the 600 page mark we went on a lovely camping trip that seemed to last 100 pages or so and I kept thinking 'ok where is the action?'

It feels like these last 3 books are only a set up for a much bigger story, so I'm super excited to carry on reading the next trilogy to see what happens.

This was slow read for me. It's easily the longest book of the trilogy, and it felt like it. It's slow and draggy in parts. There are long sections that I got a bit tired during. It's probably the worst of the three....worst sounds bad...maybe least-best?

Because it's really worth it. The last 200 pages are really strong. The closing few chapters are beautiful. I'm feeling all of the emotion still.

Fitz and Nighteyes are such a great pairing, and there really isn't a better case of a narrator being so sympathetic. Fitz is just a tragic character. These books are so good, but they leave behind a feeling of void and melancholy, so I always feel like I need some time to sit and breathe before I jump into anything else.

Anyways, it's about as good of an ending as you could imagine for the series. All of the Red Ship storyline gets wrapped up well enough, and there are some explanations for things but not all. But the character development and stuff is the best part of this series, and it's treated really appropriately here. What a wonderful trilogy.

At some points it felt like it plodded along slowly, but I love the characters a lot so it could've been worse. I absolutely LOVE Nighteyes. He's so funny.
Last like, 100 pages was filled with a lot of internal screaming on my end. The thing with Verity, Fitz, and Kettricken at the end broke me.

I didn't start the series off loving these books or even these characters. In fact, I didn't fall in love until this book specifically. I cried and it was then that I realized that I adored these books. Do with that what you will. They are so long and you can definitely feel the length of them while you're reading. However, the chapters are always pretty much perfect, I think. I see why they have to be so long, it makes sense. I can't wait to carry on with the series.
