This is another Christie book that I have listened to in my desire to read all her works. I started this quest four years ago and I do enjoy listening to the various readers who tell Christie's tales.
I believe that this is the first time I have encountered Parker Pyne. I enjoyed the stories that featured him. I gather from Wikipedia there are more stories about him - I will have to find them. The other stories with Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple were also enjoyable.
It is hard to believe that there is anyone who has not encountered Christie's various detectives. If you have not read any Christie, I would not necessarily start with this collection. One of the novel length stories might be a better choice.
If you have read much of Christie and not read this book, I would recommend it. It is light, enjoyable and all the stories are well told.

Essentially a closed-room mystery, but I can see why Christie rewrote it with Parker Pyne for inclusion in a book. The way it's written you could have substituted just about any character in the place of Hercule Poirot and it wouldn't have changed any of the other details. That said, I haven't read the Parker Pyne version, but I will. The mystery itself was relatively simple, as befits a short story, but it was still a clever ruse.
Very fast read, and none of the stories were too long. I can't handle short stories that are about a hundred pages. No such thing in this book. The story that I enjoyed most was the most abstract of all of them, along with the shortest. In that space of time Dame Christie demonstrated why she will always be the Queen of Mystery. It was a fantastic story that left the ending completely open to the reader. No lame closing from Poirot, no little huff from the people dealing with Miss Marple because she joined in at the last second and got it faster than them. Just a simple story. It would have been the perfect one to end with rather than the one this collection did end with.
This is a collection of short mysteries that were mostly published in various newspapers when Agatha Christie was alive. They're all very short and entertaining reads, mostly between 10 and 20 pages. Enjoyable!

Shout out to this book for showing me 1) I like listening to short stories and 2) Hercule Poirot takes my number one spot as favorite fictional detective.
2.5
the reveals were still amazing but I prefer the author's novels because with lengthier stuff there's more chance of adding depth to the characters and the set-up.
