I’ve wanted to read some Anaïs Nin for a while, and I was glad to find that there was a volume about her affair with author Henry Miller. Miller is a sex addict and a horrible misogynist, but his writing has fervor and his lack of scruples affords us a window into the time and culture that encouraged such behavior. Nin’s diary gives us the female perspective on the same time and culture, and though she brings less frenzy to the picture, she writes with an equal honesty and far more eloquence. She is a fascinating character who rebels against the sexual mores of her time and self-analyzes her behavior and psychology in detail. If you're looking for a story-driven book with an archplot, this isn't it, but if you’re interested in looking at the human experience through a different lens, you might enjoy this.

I went on a huge Anais Nin kick after seeing the movie adaptation of Henry and June. I really enjoyed this.
