If this novel had the feel of a "getting the gang back together" stage-setting, it was at least compelling stage-setting. This series continues to be both ambitious and grounded (at least, as grounded as a series in space can be).

Book 4 was good, but almost too familiar: Holden is righteous to a fault, Alex is an expert pilot, Naomi has a brain blast at the last minute, and Amos gets shot. I was worried that Nemesis Games might be my last Expanse book, but it instead blew away every expectation. We finally get an exclusive focus on our four heroes. They go in different directions, having their own intense adventures that push their character development into new yet logical directions. The Expanse world itself is completely upended. Once I started, I couldn't stop. This book made me realize how much I care for this rag tag crew, and supporting characters like Bobbie, Fred Johnson, and the always-delightful Avasarala. This is a game changer for the Expanse universe, as well as a thrilling quartet of character stories for our heroes.

Ontzettend spannend boek.

I'm gonna go ahead and give this one five stars. Well, it might be more of a 4.5 star, but I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. Why? Well, for 4 books and a bunch of shorter works, Abraham and Franck have delivered a continually improving series. The books are more and more fun, and this one visits the perspective of each of the four members of Rocinante's crew.
With many series like this, by the time I hit book 5 I start getting antsy- when's it going to end? Are they going to drag out the story too long for the sake of keeping things going. If they keep delivering books like this at the pace they've hit, they can stretch it out as long as they like, and I'll be happy.

I liked this a lot better than #4 in the series. I'm waffling between 4 and 5 stars. This didn't drag at all like the last book, and was entertaining all the way through. I liked getting to know the characters individually, and didn't mind that they were all doing their own thing in this book.
