I love the idea/storyline. Love the nostalgia of it! I think Ridley Pearson could be slightly problematic for this. Seems misogynistic with the way he writes the women/ girls in the book. And he seems fat phobic.
it's not great. but it was fun. i don't see myself reading any more in the series, but i would recommend them to kids.
Okay, this is a kids' book. My son read it then asked that I read it. Rather than give my own review, which might be unfairly negative, here's his take on the book:
Positives: I understood where everything was taking place because I've been to Disney World several times. I kind of liked the concept of the Overtakers but I think the first 100 pages needed to explain deeper and be scarier to build the drama.
Negatives: the characters weren't very interesting. The author didn't give me enough details so you can't care about them.

I read this book years ago when it came out and recently decided to pick it up again as my in park read on my most recent visit to the Happiest Place on Earth. I found that the story compelled me much more than it did the first time and I was hooked into the characters. Because of my love of all things Disney and Disney theme park I feel as though I do carry a certain bias and would be hard pressed to dislike this book. My one complaint, as well as the reason I wouldn't be able to give this book 5 stars, is that for all the buildup to everything I felt that the ending was a little bit to sudden for my taste. It was almost as though it was a TV show who was told halfway through their season that they only had 2 episodes left to wrap it up. But seeing as how there are now 5 books out in the series I guess it is not as big of a deal to be left with some sense of being incomplete. Because, should I desire to, I could easily delve back into the world of the DHIs and pick up where this one left off. I would recommend this book to any aspiring Disneyphile because you can always get a sense of joy when they are talking about familier settings. Even though this series takes place in Disney World and I've only been to Disneyland (albeit about 100 times) there is still a sense of familiarity that can make anyone feel warm and fuzzy after curling up with this adventure. I will definitely read the rest of the books in the series once I make it through my 50 book stack I currently have on my shelf.

Much more enjoyable when you know the DisneyParks. I tried reading it once and it didn't hold my attention, but after doing the Disney College Program and working at Walt Disney World, I enjoyed it much more than before.
I thought that this book is definitely more for the Disney Park enthusiast than the Disney enthusiast. It's been a long time since I've been to the Magic Kingdom and a lot of the geography kept escaping me. Perhaps reading it with a map of the park would have helped me.

Creative story. Not real deep. Interesting characters.I loved how they used the Disney rides and parts of the park in the story. It was good vs evil with 5 teens try to save the Kingdom while some Disney villains try to stop them. I'm a huge DIsney fan so this was a fun read for me. Good for middle readers
I totally thought I would have loved this so much better than I did. I did love it though!! Super cute! Some of the writing was horrid but other than that it was a great book!
