I was curious about this graphic novel. It started off fine with the author's recollections of her childhood and then veered off into a Dancing with the Stars fan book of sorts and then sort of petered out into an ending that didn't quite pay off. I wish the DWTS was shorter and certain parts of her childhood were expanded upon if that would have helped things be more coherent.

Very early on in the book, the narrator shows us her house and lets us know that it's a mess.

This book is a loud, busy mess. The art is too crowded on the page. I think it would be completely incomprehensible for people who don't read comics and graphic novels on a regular basis.

The art was so crowded that I just couldn't be bothered to keep reading the story.

i wanted to like this! but the art style became grating and the story really didn't seem to go anywhere. i ended up trying to finish the end of the book as fast as possible which isn't a good sign

initially picked up this graphic novel because it included my culture 🤗🇵🇭 i enjoyed reading about the author’s childhood because i related to so many of her life stories and it was interesting to see a filipino family’s lifestyle back in the 80s in america. i also really loved the vibrancy of the images! however, the images, dialogues, narrations were a bit all over the place which made it difficult for me to follow along—it felt a bit overwhelming and unorganized. overall, it was still an enjoyable read 😌
