The Deal was a good quick read. I didn’t find Garret as charming as others might.. the constant references to Hannah’s body gave me the ick. I can only hear “stripper tits” so many times..
Overall, I enjoyed Hannah’s character and how she gave Garret a run for his money. I found the constant use of the word “rape” to be unsettling. On the other hand, I appreciated that the author called out how debilitating this word can be for a survivor of rape. Going into it, ready to break down that stigma helps make hearing it over and over again easier.
Summary recap: Garret needs help in one of his classes to keep his grade up. After learning Hannah aced the midterm, he makes a deal with her to get help with tutoring and in return he’ll help her get the attention of a guy she has a crush on. Surprise surprise, they end up falling for each other. Their relationship is cute and believable, the sexual tension is high and the banter is funny.
There are small aspects of this story, that seemed relatively irrelevant to the story. However, it being the first in the Off Campus series, I’m sure the story and details will continue to grow.
