I've had this happen to me with several books recently: The genre label for marketing the book is inaccurate, which resulted in my expectations of the book not being met, and therefore I give the book a lower rating than it probably deserves. This novel is labeled as mystery and thriller, and it's by no means a typical example of those genres. The writing here is solid, much closer to literary fiction. And while there's definitely a mystery and occasional suspense, it's a character driven novel about human nature and relationships, about secrets, loyalty, and reaching various life stages.

There are three main characters: Molly, her husband, and her best friend. Each of those characters are strongly connected to the others, and they all have their own side angles that bring in side characters and additional drama. I liked all the characters, even when they weren't on their best behavior. Their lives are realistic, and I appreciate the way their marriages and friendships take priority eventually.

This is an enjoyable read, if you go into it with the proper mindset. It's isn't a "gripping page turner" in the thriller sense, yet it's a compelling and satisfying read.

Many thanks to St. Martin's Press for my advanced copy of this book.

My enjoyment for this book went downhill the further the book progressed.

I would not call this a mystery per say, and definitely not a thriller.

What it's about: Molly and Liza used to be the best of friends but have grown apart since Liza moved away to Chicago. They decide to catch up on a video chat one night, and Liza sees something disturbing after Molly goes to check on her daughter... She ends up driving through the night to check on Molly, only to receive a not-so-warm welcome and basically gets the door slammed in her face. But Liza is troubled by what she saw, and even though the friendship seems to now quite possibly be over, she still wants to help. There is more going on with Molly than Liza knows, and everything will eventually come to a head in this sizzling domestic drama!

I felt like I read [b:Forget You Know Me|39863492|Forget You Know Me|Jessica Strawser|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1544090504s/39863492.jpg|61659702] really quickly, but when I looked at my stats on the Bookly app, I found out that it actually took me 6.5 hours! I don't know why it took me so long because I really do think this book is a fast read. Strawser's writing flows really well, and I was completely invested in the story. Luckily for me, I had not read the synopsis recently and went in blind. I had kind of thought the book would be more of a mystery, but domestic drama is a much better category for this one.

The book made me tear up at the end and I loved how Strawser pulled everything together. She leaves you with a nice ending that is hopeful and sweet.

Final Thought: I really enjoyed [b:Forget You Know Me|39863492|Forget You Know Me|Jessica Strawser|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1544090504s/39863492.jpg|61659702] and I'm pretty surprised by the low average on Goodreads. I think it might have something to do with people thinking this is going to be a mystery, but it really isn't. I would recommend this to fans of domestic dramas and general adult fiction. I loved Strawser's writing and I can't wait to check out more from her!

Super fast read. I liked it, though occasionally I caught my attention drift. And I do love a book that gets wrapped up in a bow. She did that.

Forget You Know Me by Jessica Strasser tells the story of two friends, Liza and Molly, who are trying to reconnect over video chat. When Molly leaves the room to check on her crying child, Liza witnesses a man in a black mask enter Molly's house. Molly's husband, Daniel, is away on business so Liza does everything she can to get the intruder to realize she's on the computer witnessing his break-in. This causes a series of events that can cause their friendship to end or worse, Molly and Daniel's marriage to end.

I thought the description for this book sounded so intriguing, but once I started reading it, it really was not what I was expecting and not in a good way. I figured out who the masked intruder was way too early. There were sub-plots that were too involved and not necessary to the main story. It just felt uneven and forced at times to me. I love a good thriller, but this just wasn't that for me.

First off I'll say, I didn't enjoy it as much as her other novels. But that being said (and the 3 star rating), I did like it.
Molly and Daniel are both in trouble individually and instead of confiding in each other as a married couple, they try to figure it out on their own.
Liza witnesses something she can't quite figure out ( did she really see what she saw) and rushes (12 hour drive) to her friend, Molly.....saving her own life in the process as she comes back to her building gutted from a fire.
Liza and Molly have been the best of friends since college but have drifted apart over the last few years. Molly shuts Liza out after she runs to her. But they eventually get back to being friends.

Best friends Molly and Liz are determined to have a girls night together even though they are separated by states. As they connect via video chat Molly leaves the room to check on one of her kids, leaving her computer open and Liz with a view of the empty room. Suddenly, a man in a mask enters the room and disconnects the video. This has all the makings of a fantastic thriller but unfortunately this train derails halfway through the book. This is not a thriller but a domestic drama with a laugh worthy reveal at the end. Fantastic premise but poor execution and a dissatisfied reader. It kept me turning the pages but I was so disappointed at the outcome and found all of the sidewinder stories to be too much. For me, Forget You Know Me was ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars, rounded up from 2.5. Thank you @stmartinspress for this advance reader in exchange for my honest review.

This book started off great, full of intrigue and suspense. And then....it felt as if this story wasn’t sure what it wanted to be. Part mystery, though those plot points were brought up and abandoned, part romance, part thriller. Liza was, for me, the only relatable character. The rest I just could not identify with. The writing style was good and I would definitely read something by this author again.
