An enjoyable read with heart-rending twists. The moral the novel pushes is too obvious and the author beats you over your head with it, but it is unique enough that it isn’t too annoying.

The novel is almost too fast-paced. I would have liked to see more of the Stonewater Kingdom. The journey through Traum is rushed to get to the ending. I think this is the major flaw of the novel and that a slower pace would have upped my review score by another star. You simply can’t see a whole kingdom in just a single novel.

The romance is believable, but not breathtaking or unique. I am ambivalent towards the pairing, but both characters I enjoy (especially the main character).

I loved the Shepard King duology, but I think I might love this book more. The author has built a remarkable world, more fleshed out than the Shepard King’s and therefore all the more engrossing. Rory and Six were well-rounded and engaging, though the side characters were hit or miss. I am eagerly awaiting more books in this series to see what happens next!!
