Local Girl Missing is a quick read and can definitely get you out of a reading slump with its shortness as well as the pacing is quite fast. The premise was really interesting and it has multiple POVs; Yvonne, Adrian, Deborah and a young girl named Sadie and then of an unnamed young person.

The characters were all unlikeable except for Deborah cause you know. She's struggling hard with her capture. Adrian just seems to be a whiny boy who had a rough life and just has horrible thoughts about every single person but also seem kind of sad cause he's young and don't know how to cope. Yvonne was just unlikeable. Hate her.

There were some plot points that I feel were hyped up at the beginning and was forgotten at the end. Like Beth. It was so hyped up in the Adrian chapters and then it seems like the author forgot. And the mystery on who took the girls were quite obvious but all those added storylines just made it a little dull, IMO.

Overall, I did enjoy this read and will definitely check out other J.A. Baker novels.
dark emotional mysterious tense medium-paced

Took a while to get into this but once I did I enjoyed it, wasn't expecting the ending at all, just a slow starter.

DID NOT FINISH: 0%

Couldn't get into it

The mystery of the perpetrator was so well done, I alternated who I thought it was for the entire book.
It took a bit for me to get drawn in to the story, but once I was, I couldn’t put it down.
The psychology behind the actions of the character fascinates me. I wish it had been explored a little more.
I received a copy via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I really tried to like this one. The story was flat to me. I did not like the characters at all. Some of their storylines I felt did not even need to be added into the book. I felt myself skimming through just to get to the end.

When local woman Deborah goes missing her work colleagues are left shocked and concerned for her whereabouts. This book is told from multiple POVs and guides the reader on an exploratory journey to discover who is responsible for the disappearance.

Is it true that crimes are carried out by someone you know? Are we all hiding things from colleagues that we like to pretend aren't skeletons in our history? How can work friends move on when something so huge has happened? Can we really trust those colleagues that we think we know?

This is a dark and twisty psychological thriller that flips from the POV of our captive, to her captor and the work colleagues who have varying levels of concern and connection to the disappearance.

I really enjoyed this one and my interest was kept for the whole book, I thought it was really well paced and the characters give just enough away all the way through to keep you guessing, but ultimately building to a crescendo as the case is cracked. My only niggle is that not once are the police mentioned as investigating this as a missing person case, not even as a background story......but I'll let it go as I genuinely enjoyed the book overall.

Local Girl Missing was a solid good read for me. 3.5 stars rated up! The book started off really good and then trickled into a slow burn. The ending was really good!

Deborah works in an office setting. She goes missing one day after work. Her colleagues from the office are Merriel, Adrian, Yvonne and Ruth. The story is told from evervone's perspectives. The colleague's portions of the stories are a mix of their personal lives, including some of their past and work experiences. There is also another story that is clearly the past of Sadie and her experiences growing up. With so many stories and perspectives going on at the same time, I found myself having to go back and reread several portions to make sure I was reading the right things. Throughout the whole story, I thought any of the characters could be the kidnapper. The author did a great job developing the characters and jumping from present to past. I thought this book had some twisty turns and suspense. It was a good psychological thriller.
I am so grateful to NetGalley, Boldwood Books and J.A. Baker for the Advanced Readers Copy of this book. I really enjoyed reading this book, which will be available on December 7th.
