A Jane Eyre eset

This is only my second Jasper Fforde book and after reading my first, I had high expectations for this one. Thankfully for me, this story hit those expectations and left me wanting to read more.

In a crazy alternate world where literary works are bought, sold, displayed and stolen like they're major art works, the author has created a hilarious and action packed mystery story.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves the classics, time travel, alternate universes, mysteries and general craziness.

I was disappointed by this book. I wanted to love it and I did like the Douglas Adams-style irreverence and absurdity and the idea of being able to jump into classic novels, but as a whole, it didn't grip me. I didn't feel a strong pull towards any of the main characters, despite wanting to like and identify with Thursday Next.

It took me a minute to get through this book, but I blame anxiety more so than the micro print. About halfway through the book I had to rewatch the movie Jane Eyre, because lord knows I’m not about to read some Brontë. I love the feel of escaping into a book within a book. Eventually I will have to get more books in the Thursday Next series. Spike, Rochester, and Pickwick together would make a amazing and hilarious side quest. I’m hoping for more of Spike in the rest of the series.
