Witty, creative, and fun rolled into a fantasy alternate Earth option....yes please. If you like Dr. Who or books, this series has the makings of some fun for you with a very different twist. I definitely plan to read the next one.
Just boring, the characters weren't interesting or well developed, and the "created world" was not nice or interesting.
This book spoke to my inner nerd. Full of humor and imagination, the Eyre Affair is the first in the Thursday Next series (I have added all the other books in the series to my TBR shelf). The Eyre Affair is set in a time similar to ours with a few different details (the cloning of extinct animals is one example). Another unique aspect of the book is the blurred line between reality and literature. Characters from classic works come into our world, and vice versa. Thursday Next (the main character) is both flawed and heroic. I'm glad I finally found this series (started in the 1980s!). I look forward to hours of happy reading. There is some profanity, but, overall, it is a very clean and fun read.

I'm really not a fan of the absurd, or of puns; I really am not the audience here. It would be much better for fans of Terry Pratchett, which I am sad to say, I am not, not for lack of trying.
