This book was just not for me. I picked it up because the synopsis sounded interesting, but an hour in and I just wasn’t captivated by the story.

clever! this book had me hooked from the start. its funny, imaginative and surprising. i recommend it to anyone with an interest in classic literature and action adventure.

I enjoyed this, and I loved the idea of it, but it dragged a bit for me. I know that part of the reason was that I'm not particularly familiar with English literature, and I'm not a huge fan of Jane Eyre, so many of the references probably went right over my head. The magic system and action are fun, and many readers will enjoy the sense of humor in the book, which is reminiscent of popular titles like Jane Eyre. This would make a fantastic BBC series, though no plans are in the works, to my knowledge.

I wanted to like this book, really, I did! It took forever for me to get into it and then I lost interest and skimmed to the end. I would be interested in watching a movie of it.

I'm throwing in the towel. We've had some good times, but I think we both know we aren't right for each other.

The Eyre Affair is clever and amusing. It is also a cozy mystery with an emphasis on wit and shallow characters. Simply not my cup of tea. It is, however, quite well written.

If you would enjoy a humorous cozy mystery with a fantasy twist, you will love this.

On a side note, I'm really glad I read The Road to High Saffron before I read this. It's a completely different style and I love it. People who feel as I do about this particular book may want to try some of Jasper Fforde's other work.

Ah well, I tried. Intriguing ideas and scenario but could not get past the pedestrian writing (the describing herself in a mirror should have been a warning sign). I don't think I'll be bothering with any of the others in the series.

If I were to describe my feelings towards this book in one word, I would choose indifferent. The plot sounds fun and imaginative, but I think it was executed poorly. I sadly couldn't get myself to care for anything or anyone in the novel., which is too bad because I love Jane Eyre.
Also, I believe this is supposed to be funny?? idk maybe it's just not my type of humour
