Rereading these before forcing them on a friend....
Good fun. I probably missed a few of the higher brow literary jokes though as I'm not Jane Eyre expert.
Great fun! It was like reading a Monty Python movie for book nerds. Clever and intelligent and filled with lots of brain thinky humor.
first book in this series. very enjoyable, i just couldn't put it down once i started reading it. i always recommend it to my friends to read, but i never know how to describe it. i just recently saw jasper fforde on a book tour, and he was mentioning that one of the reasons it took him years to publish this book was because he did not know how to get people to read it based on a description. so i will give his advice to whomever is interested in reading this, just read it. don't ask any questions, just read it.
A delightful read for the classic reader, as they will understand many of the literary references made throughout this novel. A harrowing tale that notably made me gasp a couple of times, and held my attention quite well. Took a little while for the plot to really get moving though. Pretty good characters though nothing too deep. Difficult to relate to. Overall, an alright read.
Although cheesy at times (one of the characters names was Jack Schitt), this was a fun read, especially for someone who loves literature.

I think I'm really going to love this series! Books about books. Yay! This was a mystery, small love story, with a side of literature. I loved it! It made me want to read Jane Eyre all over again in the midst of dying to know what was going to happen to these characters. Imagine being able to travel into your favorite books! Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Set in an alternate world, Great Britain circa 1985, Thursday Next is a literary detective on the trail of villain Acheron Hades; the chase enters the realms of fiction and time travel.
Fforde's novel is an absolute delight. Easily straddling the border between science fiction and fantasy, his novel is full of literary references (It might pay off to read Jane Eyre first), play on words, irony and British humour. Recommended for any bookworm.
