I read this in one sitting! Another 5 star book from author Clare Pooley. Her books walk a beautiful line between character driven and plot driven that I love. She has fully developed characters that leap off the page and into your brain. At the same time, the plot action and timing moves you along in the book wondering what is next. I have a feeling Pooley will be a completist author for me ❤️

Very cute. But,
I wish Bea had just been fine. I think the book still would have worked without that and it was just a rough reveal for Iona.

A quick and easy read. This book was enjoyable, once I started, it was difficult to stop.

This was a feel good found-family romp of a read! Listened to it on a road trip with my husband, who also enjoyed it. I found the characters fun, likable and compelling, even when they were frustrated. I found myself chuckling often. I also am proud of myself for seeing the "twist" about the boyfriend right upon his introduction, though I still wasn't upset at the execution. I also sort of saw the twist about Bee coming (though I had guessed she was dead).
Iona's character was particularly compelling to me - she was fiercely herself and independent, while still having vulnerabilities. Often in novels the "older auntie" type characters come across as only bristle and "know it all", but Iona also showed her softer side without compromising her uniqueness or strength. I found myself chuckling out loud at her often - in a good way.
This is also the first lesbian protagonist I've come across that did not come through as immature or a terrible communicator - which I think is a double feat given Iona's personality could easily have lent itself to that.
And finally, the book managed to romanticize commuting! Kudos to the author for execution on this one - it felt both satisfying and enjoyable to go on this commute journey with the crew!

This was a really fun read! The characters were so much fun. It was a little too sincere at some parts, though.
