An inspiring and humorous story about strangers who meet during their daily train commutes and become involved in each other’s lives. Loved the unique set of characters and the overall feel-good vibe of the story!

This was the perfect book for me to read right at this moment - it romanticized commuting in a city but it also reminded me that beautiful interactions are always within reach if we take the steps to seek them out. And I hope I’ll keep that thought with me for a long time.
I also feel if I have a love like Iona and Bea in my lifetime, how lucky could I be.

This was a feel-good story about a group of misfits who happen to travel the same route on the train. Initially, they do not know one another, but instead recognize each person by the names they have made up in their minds (i.e. Crazy Dog Lady and Smart But Sexist Manspreader). When an incident on the train pushes them into a shared experience, they find that some of the preconceived ideas they had were totally off base, and each has life changing experiences as a result of actually getting to know one another.

Each of the characters in this story was lovable in their own way, and the book as a whole gave me The Wedding People vibes where chance encounters lead to unexpected joy and fulfillment. Seeing the difference in these characters between their outward persona vs. what was actually happening in their lives was a reminder that you truly never know what someone is going through and that life is best handled with a lot of grace and acceptance. This eclectic group of outliers had me smiling and sentimental, fully engrossed in their stories.

Loved this book. It made me laugh out loud and cry noisily. Its full of fabulous characters and it has a great story line that includes some quite hard hitting themes but done with a light touch. It has a disparate bunch of characters that revolve around the Iona an ex socialite who is being edged out of her magazine column now she is nudging 60. She's very forthright in her opinions and a bit of an eccentric doing the same commute everyday in exactly the same seat (with green tea in the morning and a g&t in the evening). Its all very quiet as is usual on a commuter train until Piers (the stereotypical stock broker type) chokes on a grape. This brings together Iona, Emmie and Sanjay and awakens something. Later when Martha a teenager vomits on Piers' laptop, the group is consolidated and then some interesting changes start to happen.
