This started off very promising for me, but the longer it went on the less I liked it. It feels very fanfiction-y, which was fun at first, but that's not a vibe I like in very large doses (at least outside of actual fanfiction), and it quickly overstayed it's welcome. By the end I felt like it had fallen into a place that's just too ridiculous for me. specifically it does this thing that a lot of monster romances do where they take this very unusual situation and this very otherworldly love interests and by the end of the book they are somehow in what is basically just a normal relationship, just with a demon or whatever the case may be, and for some reason that is just a place that I can not suspend my disbelief to.

For a book dealing with topics such as SA, the author managed to create a delightful romance around the core topic. (Note: the rape backstory is pretty heavy, so evercise caution with the trigger warning)Seeking revenge, Joy summons a demon to assist in the "removal" of her rapist.

I love diverse romance reads anyway, but I especially loved the fact that this was set IN Nigeria and Nigerian wedding traditions were touched on slightly (I went on to look into Nigerian weddings after reading and it's so beautiful and joyful 😭).

The relationship between Joy and Malachi was a sweet one. When Malachi finds out the reason Joy is exacting revenge, he really puts everything into consent and waiting for permission to touch her and respect her boundaries. Yes, that should be a bare minimum, but it's not always met. Joy beginning to experience physical intimacy for the first time since her assault was delicately handled with consent and boundaries worked with.

From a physical perspective, this was πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯ I just dunno what it is about monster romance authors but they are just so on point when it comes to spicy scenes man, it's wild.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. The romance was great, the plot flowed well, and the pacing was just right.

What happens when you fall for the demon you summoned to help you kill your rapist? That’s the story of Joy and Malachi. After sloughing through her grief, Joy summons the demon Malachi to aid het in terrorizing and ending the life of the man who took everything from her. Along the way these two lonely souls find companionship and love underneath all the bloodlust. This is an insanely spicy monster erotica that is as dark as it is heartwarming. This was my first read from Viano Oniomoh and I can’t wait to dive into her other works!
