This book was everything I wanted it to be and more. We follow Joy, a woman bent on revenge and the demon she summons to help her enact it, Malachi. The whole story is extremely well written, Joy’s full range of emotions in dealing with her trauma are incredibly written. The relationship between Joy and Malachi is the absolute perfect blend of sweet and spice. This is absolutely one of my favorite reads of the year so far.
Beautiful, filthy, perfect. I loved this book, I hope to see more of these two as well. Their relationship was so precious.

Not what I expected
I loved this. Oniomoh is fearless and holds nothing back in this story of vengeance. Joy's vengeance is unapologetic, and she knows that other methods of "justice" for her rapist won't happen, whether that's going to the police, her workplace, or socially sharing her story. The imagery of Joy in her dress and the personal nature of stabbing her rapist were brilliant.
The complicated relationship between her and IIyore and her and Aunt Paloma are all colored by their shared traumas; Oniomoh digs into how these traumas play out in the different ways they act toward each other and now consider each other. One of the many acts of violence brought upon survivors of sexual assault is the isolation due to rape culture. You feel the lost time and support that Joy could've had with her best friend and her aunt.
Malachi's backstory and his hell-based trauma to work through was a great contrast to Joy's story. In the same way Joy rid herself of her rapist's shadow, Malachi needed to free himself from the other demons who enslaved him for most of his life.
Neither could be looking over their shoulders as they come together as a couple. I'm looking forward to reading more books by Oniomoh.

I thought this was a very sweet book. I had a bit of review anxiety because I wondered whether it had taken me so long to finish because of outside world factors and the temptations of new books, but I really wanted to finish this one because I enjoyed the first half and knew I wanted to see it through. I’m glad I did!
Joy summons a demon to help her kill her rapist. Upon arrival, she and her demon, Malachi, have amazing chemistry which is undeniable as they embark on their bloodthirsty adventure.
I really liked their names. I thought everyone’s names suited them so well. The characters are likeable whilst having personalities of their own. Malachi in particular was the sweetest, tenderest demon book boyfriend I’ve ever read. Just so LOVELY. I didn’t understand much about the magic system so that was a little confusing but that was minor. The subject matter is heavy but Viano Oniomoh handles it with a lot of care and consideration for the characters.
The sex was very well written. The first one dragged a little though (and this is coming from someone who loves sex scenes). I like how the author explored different types of sex and it was never the same sex scene twice. The most consistent thing in the sex scenes were the characters love and respect for each other, which was so nice.
As a romance, this hit the beats you’d expect well. I predicted the ending but for me, that was a plus as the ending was incredibly sweet and what I’d hoped would happen.

This story was literally sensual healing. Like gaining your power back, finding yourself again, falling in love, exploring a person as your safe space and for all that to be mutually reciprocated. *chefs kiss*. I need more ahh

This seems like it's going to be really bad and I'm already in a book slump. If rather not waste my time. ✌🏼
