This book has been recommended to me so many times I just had to check it out and see and I am so glad I did!
The author has a way with words that I forgot I was reading a novella.
There is so much to take in with this story, the dark tones surrounding assault.
I love the way Joy takes matters into her own hands giving a slight "good for her" edge to this.

This was...so unexpected.

I went into this eager for a good, smutty, demon romance novella. Something short, sweet, and sultry. Sweet Vengeance checked those boxes, for sure. But it also checked a few more.

The story of Joy and Malachi was moving, insightful, and so, so beautiful. The two character's back stories were complex and dark, painful and residual. The two meet when Joy summons Malachi to help her enact revenge on her rapist-what follows is a journey to get revenge, yes, but also Joy's journey back to herself. She reclaims her life, her sensuality, and her vulnerability. Malachi is shown sweetness, tenderness, and friendship for the first time, and he burns for Joy. Sweet, vengeful, delicious Joy. The two's chemistry was electric. The intimate scenes were spicy as hell. The writing was unique, prose-like at times, and attention-catching. Their journeys, dynamic and winding-but always ending with each other.

I'm not ashamed to say I was in tears at the end. Top-tier erotic fantasy romance, right here, folks. I highly recommend.

"Malachi knew what it was to be hungry; he'd been hungry practically all his life. What was it about her that had his perpetual hunger going from easily ignored to downright unbearable? Almighty, he wanted to feast on her, in every way imaginable."

"Sweet, murderous Joy," Malachi husked, his wings flaring, wanting to wrap around them both, like he could shelter them from the world. "You are exquisite."

"Ready, demon boy?"
"Whenever you are, little tiger."

"At that moment, Malachi knew it like he knew his True Name. There would never be another. Joy was it. Could he let her go now? When there was so much to discover between them?"

This story destroyed the fuck out of me and I'm living for it. I knew before I started it, you know, I had a feeling my life was never going to be the same after reading it and true to form, I'm not the same person I was before I knew about Viano Oniomoh. I never knew what it was I really needed in my life until I came across this demon romance based in Nigeria with a FMC who's out for vengeance and isn't sorry about it.

The men went low, and she went to hell. Literally. Joy is not the bigger person and she's not afraid to admit - worse when she literally summons a demon to make a deal with them. She wants Malachi (is what the demon introduces himself as) to help her make a murder she wants to commit look like an accident or a natural cause. Who might she want to kill so bad she dips her toes into the world of the worst possible evil entities known to man, you ask? Oh, just a stupid person who saw her get roofied at a party and decided to take advantage of her instead of really helping, like he said he would.

Joy's drink got spiked by someone (it's never revealed who did it) at a bar and this man she works with poses as her knight in shining amour by offering to take her home. Only to violate her on the floor of her flat and leave her like that in the dark. And due to the nature of the incident and how even her best friend didn't want to believe her, Joy shuts down and basically vanishes from the life she'd made for herself following her parents' passing. She changes flats, changes her number, quits her job - all without warning. And for a good long while, she lives a life she can't even begin to describe. She becomes the shell of a woman aspiring to make moves and get ahead in life.

That is, until her aunt shows her how to summon a demon and make a deal with them. She does and from the moment these two are in the same space together, there's an apparent attraction in the air. But they need to get business out of the way first so Joy lays down her plan to make this unnamed man who upended her entire life (while his went on just fine!) pay for his vile behaviour.

Malachi is all too willing to help wherever he can because he's also got his fair share of problems and having this deal is doing him more good than he can ever say. Without any deals with humans, he, as a demon, does not have a tether to the physical realm. And going back to hell is NOT an option he wants to be faced with. EVER. And now that his other human is about to die, he needs a new contract as soon as yesterday. And this is where Joy comes in.

So, together, they stalk the man Joy wants to kill. They taunt him, appearing out of thin air in one second only to vanish in the next. It gets to the point where they follow him to his place and enter into his dreams - the objective is to drive him insane before Joy drives her dagger into his flesh. For days this goes on, all while they're trying their damned best to stay as far away from each other as possible. Trying as hard as they can to not lose focus, to not act on the feelings and spark they feel between each other.

In the end, Joy's plan goes exceptionally well, she gets to keep Malachi and becomes a vigilante of sorts, going around and showing abusers and rapists the might of her wrath.

(Not you thought I was done, hehehehehe....)

A list of things I absolutely love about Sweet Vengeance:
1. The smut. Now, let's get one thing straight - I am a wattpad, quotev and ao3 baby. Fanfiction is in my veins every waking hour of every day and as a result smut is my thing. It's my jam, it's my passion. Not all books should have smut but the ones that do, I believe, should do it right. They should come correct or don't come at all. And here, my dear friends and foes, Viano came with her guns blazing and SERVED the CUNTIEST of all smut I have read in a hot minute. The girlies' thirst was satiated, their hunger was fed, the monster within was tamed and then let out to roam freely! I was hot and bothered and vibrating while I read through Joy and Malachi's escapades. I LEVITATED. That's how good it is.

2. I appreciated the pronoun sensitivity we see in the beginning of the book, where both Joy and Malachi don't assume the other's pronouns. We read them as "they/them" in the narration until Malachi asks her pronouns and she does the same. I thought that was a nice touch, especially for a society that's learning more and moving towards full inclusivity and sensitivity around others' identities.

3. I liked the fact that the rapist goes unnamed from the start to the very end of the book. He's taken so much from Joy and the life she was trying to build for herself that he doesn't deserve any semblance of kindness. She chose not to give his name and Malachi never asked for it and you know what, I wasn't mad at that. AT ALL.

4. I enjoyed the pop culture references throughout the whole story. The fact that a demon suddenly has all the time in their hands when they come to this world, and they're interested enough to drown in all the different forms of art that are out there really hit the bells for me.

5. Viano is a BTS ARMY. (I don't need to expound on this point)

6. THAT CLOSING SCENE!!!! With the- and the- and when he asked her to-... Gurl.

She turned away, reaching into her wardrobe for her makeup bag to hide the fact that she was hiding her hot face.

this is an example of one of the sentences that felt poorly written. also, there were already references to marvel movies. just gave me the ick immediately.

double also, i should’ve checked the CW before reading bc i didn’t realize this was a r@pe revenge plot.

"Ready, demon boy?”- Joy
“Whenever you are, little tiger.” - Malachi

Just and deserved REVENGE! - You sweet beautiful monster, ph how I have missed doing the mambo with revenge in the pages of books. Also ... very sexy shenanigans inbetween some righteous wrath and that deserves a badass guitar solo.
I find myself enamoured by Afro-mysticism with the same blind love I have for the Fey and all things Vampyre.

Plot/Storyline/Themes:
An abused demon signs a contract with an abused human woman and together they reign terror on rapists. Two survivors take their power back.
Right bring it in people, this is how you do revenge.

Two Sentences, A Scene or less - Characters:
🤣Joy describes herself as six feet tall and "deliciously fat" and I laughed and I thought well that's cute and refreshing.😍 Also Joy is one helluva survivor and honestly, I would not endeavor to make it look like an accident. So in that regard she is one damn smart cookie. I wish she'd stop saying mean things to herself.

🔥Malachi is a demon after my own bloody heart. Just come get it, I'm barely using it. Oh yeah and he watched the last Thor movie ans didn't think it sucked - he's probably alone in that but isn't he just Sexadorable! (Hot and cute)
Oh my God - Iyore 😥😭

Favorite/Curious/Ludicrous/Unique Scene:

✔️Iyore and Joys heart to heartbreaking💔 revelation.

Favorite/Curious/Ludicrous/Unique Quotes:
🖤 “The morally upright Christian she’d been raised to be protested: Isn’t death too harsh a punishment for a rapist? For any criminal, for that matter?
But the other side of her—the side that clawed for justice—for vengeance— screamed: death is not enough.”
(Death is exactly the right amount of punishment)
🖤 “If I rip someone apart, bit by bit, can you put them back together and make it look like they’d died in their sleep instead?” (Yeeeeeh! Cue Xena Warrior Princess noise here for Vengeance!)
