This book was not for me, and that's entirely on me for reading it based solely on the cover without even reading the summary. I really enjoyed Cupid Calling by the same author, but as it turns out, this book was nothing like Calling Cupid. This book was far darker, and that was what made it not for me. There is a definite audience for this book, and if you like both dark romance and monster smut, then this is definitely for you. I'm a little jealous if it is, honestly, because I liked the characters in this quite a bit, and I especially enjoyed the glimpse into life in Nigeria. If you are going to read this, please check content warnings first. The story deals with a lot of very heavy and potentially very triggering content, and not knowing about it up front definitely impacted my reading experience.

This book was so satisfying for me. I loved how Joy absolutely haunted and tortured her rapist. There's just something about terrible people getting exactly what they deserve that makes my heart sing.

Murder aside this book was literally SO sweet. I loved the relationship between Joy and Malachi. Not even just the spicy times (good lord were they impeccable though), but just the ease and safety they had with eachother. I felt they were both so good for eachother and really helped one another heal.

I'll definitely be reading more from Viano in the future.
