I don't think I have ever read a book about revenge and enjoyed it as much as I did this one! fair warning this book is centered around our FMC's SA so it has some pretty heavy tw's.

What I really loved about this was you could very clearly see Joy's struggles in the aftermath of her assault. despite her struggling she still has this amazing confidence about her and her drive for vengeance leads her right into the arms of Malachi who finds her bloodthirstiness endearing.

Malachi's past will hurt your heart and fill you with loneliness. I loved their dynamic together Malachi's sweetness and Joy's bloodthirstiness and their desire to love each other in their true natural personalities was everything.

As I make my way through Oniomoh’s catalogue, it is clear that her knack for telling unique stories and crafting characters with compelling backgrounds seems to be consistent in every book she writes.

Although the extremely repetitive dialogue and certain explicit  word choices (ban the word β€œc***” ABEG) did somewhat my damper my reading experience and even had me somewhat skimming the smut after a certain point, I still enjoyed the ride this story took me on. Joy and Malachi, like the throuple in Just For The Cameras, find love in an unconventional way. I commend the author for the thoughtful commentary in regards to how SA deeply affects victims and upends their lives not only physically but emotionally/mentally also.

The heaviness of the content within the book does not impede on the revenge that our female MC rightfully deserves. Joy is for the black girls and all SA survivors who have had to find themselves again after a part of them has been forcefully ripped away.  Flirty, intense, and delicious Viano Oniomoh serves up a love that is sweeter than vengeance in this dark fantasy romance novel.

For a book dealing with topics such as SA, the author managed to create a delightful romance around the core topic. (Note: the rape backstory is pretty heavy, so evercise caution with the trigger warning)Seeking revenge, Joy summons a demon to assist in the "removal" of her rapist.

I love diverse romance reads anyway, but I especially loved the fact that this was set IN Nigeria and Nigerian wedding traditions were touched on slightly (I went on to look into Nigerian weddings after reading and it's so beautiful and joyful 😭).

The relationship between Joy and Malachi was a sweet one. When Malachi finds out the reason Joy is exacting revenge, he really puts everything into consent and waiting for permission to touch her and respect her boundaries. Yes, that should be a bare minimum, but it's not always met. Joy beginning to experience physical intimacy for the first time since her assault was delicately handled with consent and boundaries worked with.

From a physical perspective, this was πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯ I just dunno what it is about monster romance authors but they are just so on point when it comes to spicy scenes man, it's wild.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. The romance was great, the plot flowed well, and the pacing was just right.

Two of my favorite things in one: a character getting the vengeance she deserves, and a man obsessed with his woman. My only complaint is that I wanted it to be longer.

Seeing a man being submissive was a nice change (and definitely another thing that I love).

I'm so excited for the next book in this series, as well as any other book by this author.

Representation: black bisexual female main character, pansexual male demon love interest.

Content Warnings: mentions and descriptions of past sexual assault, discussions and depictions of murder, references to slavery and imprisonment (as a past event), religious imagery, trauma, PTSD, blood drinking, violence, gore, dominance/submission, references to a main character being drugged at a bar (as a past event), loss of parents via a plane crash (as a past event), mention of a hysterectomy in relation to debilitating fibroids, explicit sex scenes.
