Malachi the demon is a wholesome sweetie. Joy is a bloodthirsty woman out for revenge. They're both incredibly vulnerable in their own ways but find strength in themselves by finding strength in each other.

I flagged a little around the 70ish% mark, possibly because it was clear where things were going but it was taking longer than I expected to get there and not offering something to keep me interested. Once the story moved past that, it took off again and ended on a stronger note.

Here's something I REALLY appreciated: Malachi feeds off of emotions and can scent things like arousal but never takes knowing those emotions or scents as consent. He still ASKS explicitly!

For example:

Joy smelled like satisfaction, but unlike last night, her desire still lingered underneath. She still wanted—
Malachi forced the thought aside. That scent was not an invitation.

Demon summoning as foreplay is something I want more of in books, please.
