After the events of Foul Lady Fortune, Rosalind finds herself in constant dilemmas while trying to get Orion back to his natural self, despite being turned into a brainwashed soldier. With Alisa, Phoebe, Silas, and a few other allies, there are many curves for Rosalind to hop over along the path in order to fight amidst the chaos lingering in Shanghai.

I'm still sobbing over how this is the last book in the Secret Shanghai Series. These Violent Delights literally got me back into reading after so long. Foul Heart Huntsman felt like a satisfying end to the series, but more of a good ending for Rosalind and Orion. I thought the characters from These Violent Delights would get more "plot time", and while I was reading I felt like Benedikt and Marshall were not going to show up until they finally did. The reunion with Roma and Juliette was so wholesome; I was so happy for Alisa and Roma getting to see each other again, and Juliette and Rosalind got a chance to rekindle with each other after all that happened years ago. There were so many plot twists throughout the story, Chloe needs to stop I was screaming so much while reading.
Orion is just a sweetheart while he goes through the amnesia. I loved how he and Rosalind got to get back together and strengthen their relationship more. Celia and Oliver's relationship got pretty sweet too. All the romantic quotes in this book were on point, each one just kept on piercing my heart.
I liked Silas as a character when he was introduced in Foul Lady Fortune, and honestly, I did not see what happened with him coming at all. Both Phoebe and Silas would definitely need some time to figure out their relationship after everything, and I think that's okay. They are pretty cute together though.

I recommend this book to all readers who would like to dive into Chloe Gong's historical fiction series (it's best to read them all in order), as I will never stop recommending Chloe's books to other readers. I find the characters enjoyable and the plot lines interesting, and they're also nice reads if you're looking for creative Shakespeare retellings.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.25
I really enjoyed this and I’m so sad this story and world that Chloe Gong created has come to an end
I absolutely loved Rosalind’s character. We got to see even more sides to her in this book, e.g. her feeling for Orion, the love she has for her sister and cousin etc. Seeing her develop and grow was absolutely amazing. She is one of the bravest, badass, snarky FMC I’ve read but she also has such a sensitive side which I love.
I was unsure going into this what was going to happen with regard to Orion’s character but I really liked the direction the author took. I grew to love Orion even more, he has such compassion and love and his loyalty is absolutely amazing. He can’t be faulted for anything in these books.
I loved the mini plot line between Silas and Phoebe. They are two very complex characters but I was hooked with questions and wanting to know if certain things would happen. I do kinda wish a couple of things could have happened but I still love them and all the events surrounding them.
Celia and Oliver I thought were very cute and also really funny. Two very stubborn people, wanting to protect each other. Their banter and interactions were so good. I’m so happy with how their storyline went.
Alisa is such a funny character. She is just perfect and I’m so glad she was included in these books so we got to see even more of her.
I was extremely happy that the characters from the novellas in ‘Last Violent Calls’ was included in this book. For me, this just made the book even better. Seeing all the characters I love together and the drama surrounding them, just amazing.
I’m so glad that everyone got a good ending. It made me so happy that after 4-5 books and so much drama and so much violence, everyone was able to be happy.
I liked the political aspects of this book, I thought it was interesting. Sometimes I do wish we got a little bit less but I understand it was necessary for the plot and for the events occurring.
Also in a couple of places, I wish that the pacing picked up slightly. I was happy with the pacing of the book and I don’t have an issue with it, but just once or twice I wish it could have gone a little quicker.
If you haven’t picked up this book or any book in the secrets of Shanghai series I highly implore you to do so.
