We recoil from the notion that this is it---that this life, with all its flaws and inescapable vulnerabilities, its extreme brevity, and our limited influence over how it unfolds, is the only one we'll get a shot at.

not your typical time management book. rather than the popular dogma which says the goal is to do everything, burkeman encourages the reader to figure out what truly matters to them in an engaging way, albeit with a brush of the typical self-help condescension

The kind of book on time I appreciate & admire. Need to find more such practicioners, philosophers who focus on being by internalizing time, rather than a resource to ration by externalizing time. 'when we try to master time, time ends up mastering us.'

I read this because of a Tita’s recommendation. I enjoyed it! I was reminded that there is no reality where we can do everything we want to do and be who we want to be for everyone at all times. Once we let go of trying to control our life, there will be a freedom that accompanies the choices we make. This is still something I struggle with (I love a plan). But, as my friends can attest, I have been so much more flexible and spontaneous this past year. That huge loss of control in my life has opened opportunities that fill my time and fill my heart. It will never be perfect, it’ll always be a work in progress
