Didn't love this one as much as the first, but still an enjoyable read. I really enjoy a mystery/suspense book with some humor (especially if it's dry or dark) and this fits the bill.

Ok I was apparently in the slight minority of thinking the first book in this series (Killing Me) was literally amazing, so I was so excited to pick this book up when it came out. While this was not as perfect as the first installment, I literally devoured this book. It was funny, tense, twisty, and once again delivered a unique spin on a thriller. I love the con elements that work their way in and as always, just a spectacular found family. I felt like some of the plot lines in the middle of the book were a bit muddled but I felt like I quickly fell back into the groove with this crew.

I absolutely adored the first book in the series, Killing Me, but this fell flat for me.

• Amber Jamison #2 • serial killer mystery thriller • gallows humor • Finlay Donovan vibes—but make it lesbian • dabbles in con-artistry • Vegas setting • dual POV •
• While I didn’t get pulled in as much as I would have liked, the pacing felt jumbled, and the laughs didn’t quite hit the mark, this wasn’t a bad addition to the series. I also couldn’t remember what happened in the first book at all, so it’s possible this contributed to my feelings. I think I wanted less humor and more depth—also, the serial killer wasn’t really giving me serial killer-y vibes.
•As for the narration, Jaime Lamchick slayed…and Khaya Fraites was fairly decent.
•My Score 6.71/10•

Slaying You is the sequel to Killing Me, which I read back in 2023. Killing Me was such a fun and entertaining thriller, so I was very excited to pick up the sequel. It follows Amber as she returns to Las Vegas for a friend’s wedding. But once again, she finds that a serial killer is targeting her and her friends.
Like Killing Me, this was a fast-paced read that I found hard to put down. I enjoyed being back with Amber, Grace, Dottie and Marcella. The short chapters made it very propulsive and I loved the darkly humorous writing and witty banter. My only issue is that it felt a bit like a retread of the first book. Killing Me felt so fresh and different than other thrillers I’ve read. Slaying You was missing some of that freshness. I also thought the ending was very rushed and things were tied up a bit too neatly.
Overall I still really enjoyed Slaying You and if there is another book in the series, I will definitely pick it up!

This was a solid sequel and I hope more books come from these characters. It’s rare to laugh this hard over serial killers, sex workers, and daddy issues but just like with book one the juxtaposition between the darkness and chaos was a++. If you like Finlay Donovan and don’t mind some casual gore definitely recommend
