I read about half of this. I'm sure there's a really good conspiracy documentary in here, if you can get past all the words. Blah Blah Blah.
This book was both fascinating and frustrating (and a bit scary!). It's about a hidden-in-plain-sight religious society that every president has been a member of since it's inception (as well as many other members of congress). They are the group that runs the National Prayer Breakfast, which always includes the President. And their headquarters are walking distance from my house! Very chilling how connected they are to power and how they view religion, the world, and their role as leaders. The frustrating part was the book itself; not well written and in desperate need of a good editor.
The idea and subject matter is incredibly interesting the readability is about at a zero.
Hard to say I really liked this book because it's just disturbing. But it's very well written, easy to read, well researched, and fascinating. Plus it's so timely as we have an egregious example of the Family's influence in global politics playing itself out in Uganda right now. This book is really helpful in understanding an important truth about the way this country works.
Not what I expected nor wanted, and it was progressing too slowly for my taste
I must admit I didn't finish this so I might have rated it higher had I finished it, but I had read 2/3rds so... I just burned out. It was depressing... I don't think it was unreal, it just feels out of my control so then I am just depressed by it. What is more concerning is that I hear that the author ends by seeming to think that the whole thing is a good idea... maybe even scarier!
